Funny Stuff!
Alright, there’s just something that I need to share with all of you right this very second. For Valentines Day, my husband bought me the best and most surprising gift that I could have ever imagined! There’s a good gift, and then there’s a GREAT gift – and this was the latter. He’s known that I have wanted this for many years, and I guess on the anniversay of the 5th year of us dating, he decided to pull the trigger and get it for me. I can’t even tell you how excited I am to give it a try!
Ok, by this time you’re probably wondering, “What exactly DID he get you?” Well, I am now the proud owner of the most beautiful and amazing waterbed that money can buy! It’s just one of my absolute favorite things to dream about in the whole world, and now I have one. Needless to say, I gave him my gift later on that night and he was quite happy to receive it as well.
My waterbed has literally every single feature that you could possibly want. It actually heats up the water so you can sleep in a jacuzzi-like state. I get very cold by nature, to the point where even a mass of covers sometimes doesn’t even keep me warm, so this feature was sorely needed. Now I get to go to sleep in a little cocoon of warmth that I’d never experienced before! It cut the time it took me to fall asleep from about an hour to around ten to fifteen minutes. It’s worth the purchase right there in my humble opinion.
If you’re still not convinced, it actually can be pumped more or less full depending on the bounciness and floatation level that you want in your bed. If you prefer a very hard bed, you can actually fill it up to the point where you get very little movement. If you want the traditional waterbed experience, then by all means don’t fill it up to the maximum level and enjoy the floaty goodness that is laying down on one of these awesome beds.
I’m just so fortunate to have a significant other who actually cares for me and will do things like this for me. When I told all of my girlfriends at work they actually had a minor freakout – though it was nothing compared to what I must have looked like when I walked into our bedroom that night. I think my screams of joy might have scared the neighbors because I definitely saw some lights turn on outside the door. There’s nothing like being shocked to your core with something so sweet and thoughtful by a loved one. If you have the urge or the desire to grab a waterbed, then by all means make it happen – or just buy one for a loved one. Chances are they’ll react in pretty much the same way that I did, and you’ll create an unforgettable moment in their lives.

I just recently started my first job after graduating from college. I feel very professional getting dressed up in business attire on a daily basis and carrying my briefcase with me to the office and setting it down on the desk in my very own cubicle. Suddenly I went from partying with the frat boys on the weekends to schmoozing with clients and CEOs! I feel like such a grown-up.
With a “grown up” job comes grown up responsibilities. One such responsibility is the idea that I now have to pay all of my own bills. When I was in college my parents helped me pay for my car insurance and my phone, since we were on a family plan for both. However I live hundreds of miles away from them now, and it does not really make sense for me to be 22 years old and still relying on my parents’ bank accounts to pay my bills.
My corporate job gives me benefits like paid vacation time, health insurance, and dental insurance (just like this (http://zahnweissinfo.com/zahnzusatzversicherung/), but I do not really understand what each one gives me. I know I am still covered under my mom’s company’s insurance until I am 25, but since my parents are cutting me off completely I had to figure it all out on my own. I immediately went to the internet to see what kind of insurance I wanted to sign up for, since I knew I most likely was not going to need disability or cancer insurance—at least I hope not.

One of the main points of interest I found when researching dental insurance is that there is more than one kind. Indemnity, which is largely considered the best dental plan allows you to see any dentist you want, as long as they accept the kind of insurance you have. The other kind is called a dental Health Managed Organization, or HMO, and I have to go to specific dentist or dental office in order to receive the benefits of the insurance. To me indemnity sounds a lot better because there is more freedom with it, but my office only provides an HMO plan. I guess I do not really have a choice, though, so I have to stick to the HMO; but also I do not foresee using my dental benefits too often in the near future, so I suppose it does not really matter how much coverage I have.
I am still poring through all of the information my human resources department gave me on benefits and the terms of my employment, as well as company policies, but at least now I understand the basic difference between indemnity and HMO dental coverage. It was all so much easier when I was in school and was guaranteed health insurance through my college’s student health services. Oh well, it is about time for me to figure this stuff out on my own, since I am officially an adult after all. I am sure I can talk to my manager if I have any more questions.

It was really easy to get discouraged in those first few months. I would think, “man – we’re working so hard and doing all of these different things and we aren’t saving ANYTHING!” And really, we weren’t. But, little by little, the numbers in our savings account grew, and the amount of ‘leftover’ money we were able to scrounge from our budget grew as well. It was literally only growing $5 or $10 a month, but that ads up after time.
When I would get discouraged I would want to quit. I’d think about scrapping our budget or just getting two other jobs or just going out and buying a huge TV just to blow off steam. I’m so glad I didn’t. Being able to work towards a common goal with SD Gal really helped me stay motivated, even when it was tough to.

Let me use an example: We have a puny TV, and no cable or satellite, and the switch to digital TV this Friday is going to knock our faithful rabbit ears out of commission. I’ve been wanting to upgrade our TV and at least get the $10/month basic cable package from Comcast. I’m a big believer in promo codes and coupons though, it can make those “luxury” purchases more affordable (my wife used a Straight Talk promo code last week in fact). It’s kind of a become a running joke that comes up every time we are able to score some extra cash we say “hey – let’s get a TV!” Then, we turn around and put the money into our long-term savings account and hope that 1.5% interest rate makes us rich.
I kind of feel like Jimmy Stewart in “It’s a Wonderful Life” when he puts the two dollars they have leftover after the bank run in the safe and calls the “Papa Dollar” and “Mama Dollar” and tells them to have a family. Am I the only one that ever feels like that?
It’s kind of hard, denying yourself of things you want (or might even think you need) but remembering what’s most important helps. There are few pedals out there that can really wow me, but I have to say that I ran into one a few days ago at the local music shop. The guys in there are really trustworthy as they’re not looking to make a quick buck and sell some shoddy and overhyped equipment. If I can get a distortion, delay, eq, and modulation effect on one pedal I’m one happy camper. That’s when my guy showed me the ME-70 from Boss. It’s a multi effect pedal that can absolutely change the way you sound overnight.
Sure, it has a lot of different knobs and pedals but that’s just something that I love to dig into. It piques my curiosity to no end to just sit there for hours and fool around with every single knob and see how they all work in combination. You’d be surprised what effects you can create when you spend ten hours messing around with a multi effects pedal. There are some really trippy sounds that can come up, some of which are garbage and some of which are absolute gold. It just takes that inquisitive spirit to really pull all that you can out of a machine.
One of the things I love about the ME-70 is the fact that it makes this hunt for golden sounds a bit easier by having a lot of presets that sound absolutely fantastic. Often times an effects pedal company just buys up stock sounds and loads them on the board to make it seem like you’re getting a lot of value for your money. After all, no one wants to buy a multi effects pedal without any sound packs on it, right? Well, Boss pedals proved they are a cut above the rest by loading up sounds that actually sound like they were hand created by audio technicians.
They have a really sweet blues guitar sound that channels one of my favorite guitarists of all time, Stevie Ray Vaughan. When I put that tone on and played a couple licks from “Little Wing” my heart almost exploded with emotion, as that is one of my favorite songs. I felt like the ghost of Stevie was channeled through me as I played some of his tunes, and this solidified the idea in my mind that Boss goes the extra mile for their customers. I’ll never be able to thank the guys at my local shop enough for introducing me to this amazing pedal.
